MRSA – How to treat it, get rid of it, and prevent future recurrences

Disclaimer – these statements have not been evaluated by a medical professional. Confer with your doctor when applicable. These steps are just helpful ideas. Check ingredients on any creams, lotions, or vitamins before use.

While MRSA does not have any direct correlation to eczema, children with eczema are more prone to contracting the bacteria responsible for these infections since they have open wounds on their skin.
When a MRSA sore appears, first check with your pediatrician to find out if antibiotics are needed. –

  • A) Ensure that any sores are completely covered – an easy way to do it is with Transparent Film Dressing
  •
  • B) Apply something to the sores every 24 hours. An easy option is Mupirocin.
  •
  • C) Bleach baths – add about ½ cup of bleach to a full tub of warm water and soak for 20 minutes. Rinse off and apply treatment and cover sores. (if available, can use Hibiclens as a rinse)
  •
  • D) Natural regimen that has proven effective even in really bad cases – MR Wound Healing products. Purchase the ointment, powder and oil and follow these procedures. They can be purchased at local health store.20 minute bleach bath
  1.  Gently dry the affected area and apply a thin layer of the MR oil.
  2.  Add a layer of ointment on top of the oil and lightly sprinkle the powder on top.
  3.  Cover well – make sure wound is covered from all 4 sides with gauze and tegaderm.
  4.  Leave covered for 24 hours. Then remove the dressing and attempt to squeeze the puss out of the wound.
  5.  Repeat the process until the MRSA is healed.
  • E) After the affected person uses the bathtub (or the toilet, if the sore is located on the groin) make sure to clean it well with an antiseptic agent.
  •
  • F) Whoever comes in contact with the sores should wash their hands well.
  •
  • G) Do not share linens or towels. Changed affected person’s linen and towels often, washing on the hottest cycle they can handle. If it’s not possible to wash towels between every use, they should at least go through a dryer cycle between washes.
  •
  • H) Each family member should apply mupirocin to each nostril twice a day for 2 weeks. The easiest way to accomplish that is by applying with a q-tip. Avoid cross contamination and do not re-use any swabs.
  •
  • I) Some individuals have seen success in preventing future cases by ingesting some or all of the following supplements – apple cider vinegar (also comes in capsule form), Kyolic (beware if there is a garlic allergy), and/or elderberry syrup.
